In a surprising partnership that challenges usual expectations, the game developer has unveiled an virtual collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the official release, "A mysterious encounter pulls protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a original adventure, where hints of forbidden ceremonies and monstrous transformations resonate through the shadows." The storyline features a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a hidden cult.

The adventure focuses on "strange trials and a monstrous foe" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Transformations

The trailer features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer concludes with a dramatic sequence showing a character, presumably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Prizes and Additional Content

Players who successfully complete the quest will obtain an exclusive katana alongside numerous artifacts secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special arms
• Survey Corps steed

Newest Free Story Addition

This patch also brings the game's latest no-cost story content, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive skills: Naoe reveals a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-fatal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Mystery" also contains a original environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

This marks scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime series. The series earlier included a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that obviously echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
